Great Baikal Trail: Bolshiye Koty – Listvyanka

Friday a week ago we started our last section of the hike to Listvyanka. The first half of the track was following the shore with a short uphill just before we turned into the valley in back country, because the track along the shore at the last section is destroyed and maybe a little bit dangerous for ordinary hiking people. We need to hike uphill and all people which came towards us were asking where is lake Baikal. The 400 meters uphill hike through the forest was nothing special and even the view at the mountain pass was not scenic at all. After we went downhill to Listvyanka we went to a small market and had some Pilaf (плов) for dinner. Listvyanka is an ordinary touristic village with nothing special at all. When you come from the nature after three days, and have seen such nice spots like Koty, you feel a bit wrong at this place. And also people are staring at you, when you walking there with the big backpack while they are wearing their high heels.

There are even small bridges across small creeks
Small kindergarten of ducks on clear fresh water
Track along the shore
Short uphill section…
…before we finally got uphill to the mountain pass through high grass.
You see lake Baikal from the mountain pass?
Finally left the national park…
…and entered the civilisation again.
The beach in Listvyanka directly at the end of the Great Baikal Trail…which was really great from several points of view
